The treatment of abnormal scars (hypertrophic, keloid, streched.etc) still represents a challenge even for the best prepared surgeon. There are many variables that we must consider before setting up a corrective therapeutic program of abnormal scar:
- the age,
- the general conditions and patient compliance,
- the anatomical region,
- the type of trauma,
- time elapsed,
- medical or surgical local therapy performed.
The scientific literature focused on prevention and treatment of abnormal scars despite being quite vast and diverse, still suffering from the lack of a widely shared consensus and an identity of therapeutic views.
Far from aspiration to create a guideline, but moved only by the desire to clarify the long and intricate path that a patient has to pursue, I tried to summarize the best therapeutic options in relation to the type of scar and time elapsed.
